Steve Jobs introduced a next generation Mac Book laptop which provides greater value and some impressive upgrades from previous models.

New MacBook Features

The most impressive, and noticeable, upgrades are the full-aluminum casing which is more visually pleasing, as well as lighter and more environmentally friendly. With a seamless construction, the new laptops are also sturdier than their predecessors.

Apple upgraded the displays to feature a high res 1280 x 800 LED which shows brilliant graphics on the glass screen, as well as providing a more energy efficient output. Improved graphics are made possible by NVIDIA 3D processors (GE Force 9400 M) which vastly improve the 3D and video rendering capability of the new models.

A new multitouch trackpad improves navigation, by allowing for seamless gestures to zoom, scroll and select items - providing a much needed update in notebook navigation. Users of the iPhone and iPod Touch will find the feature familiar, although the Books don't support touch screen commands.

MacBook Hardware

Weighting just under five pounds, the new Macbook measures 13 x 9" and can last up to 5 hours before you need to recharge the batteries. You can configure your new Mac with up to 4GB RAM and as big as a 320 Gig hard rive (or 128G solid state). All models include a Core Two Dual processor, availiable in 2 or 2.4 GHz speeds. The real power is in the Nvidia graphics processing which greatly speeds up processing time. All models come with integration Airport, Bluetooth, Internet, USB Ports, iSight Webcam, Video Outputs, 60W Power Adapter and charger for the lithium battery.

As part of Apple's efforts to improve the eco-friendly nature of the MacBook, the new models feature mercury free LED, arsenic free glass screens, recyclable cases as well as internal BFR and PVC free components along with Energy Star compliance and a gold EPEAT star.

MacBook Software

Featuring Mac OSX Leopard version 10.5, all new laptops include Time Machine backup software, Boot Camp Windows startup option, along with Apple's iLife 2008 productivity suite, including iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb and music production software Garage Band.

You also get a free 1 year membership in the Mobile Me sync suite along with an Apple Care warranty.
